Your Xbox 360 is a powerful gaming console thanks in large part to its PC architecture. The Xbox 360 is in fact a computer just like your desktop, it just runs a custom operating system. Thanks to their hardware commonality you can use the DVD drive in the Xbox 360 in you PC as it is a normal DVD drive just with a custom interface. You will have to use security screwdriver bits to get inside the Xbox 360 but they operate just like normal screwdrivers.

Turn the Xbox 360 off. Pull the console out of the AV cabinet and pull the power plug out from the rear of the console. Place the console on its side and locate the pressure tabs that hide behind the vents on the side. Press a screwdriver through the vent hole to press the tabs out of place. Use a flathead screwdriver along the top of the console to act as a wedge to pry up the grey top panel. Pry off the rubber feet on the side of the Xbox 360 to expose more holes. Press the screwdriver through each hole while pulling up on the side panel to release it.
Place a flathead screwdriver into the seam between the top and bottom plastic panels. Gently rock the flat head up and down to move the housings apart from each other. There will be four clips on each side that need to be depressed to fully release the housings. After the top is loose, pry the plastic housing off by hand. This exposes the metal RF shield that covers the electronic core. Use a #10 torx bit to unscrew the six retaining bolts. Keep the bolts handy as they are hard to replace if you lose them. Flip the console around one more time and pry off the other plastic housing now that it is free from the retaining bolts.
Unclip the power cord and data cord from the DVD drive that sits atop all the other components inside the Xbox 360. The DVD drive will be secured in a drive cage with four Philips screws on, two on each side. Slide the DVD drive out by hand. Turn your computer off and unplug the power cord from the rear. Take the side panel off by unscrewing the retaining bolts by hand. Pull the side panel off the computer and place it to the side. Press the retaining tabs down on an empty drive bay and push the drive bay front fascia out by hand.
Slide the Xbox 360 DVD drive into the now empty drive bay and hook a power cord and data cord into the back of the unit. The power supply unit on the computer should have several spares and the IDE cable leading to the hard drive will have an extra data hookup on its wire. Use the Philips screws from the inside of the Xbox to secure the DVD drive to the drive cage in the PC. Turn the computer back on before reattaching the side panel. Check to make sure the DVD drive is recognised by the PC and then reattach the side panel.
