Wrigley's Doublemint gum was first manufactured in 1914 and has been a staple among gum flavours ever since. This iconic gum uses a colour scheme of light and dark green with white and red accents. You can easily transform yourself or a child into a piece of Doublemint gum with a few household items and craft materials. This project will take about a day to make, because the paint has to dry before you can wear the costume.

Instructions

  1. 1

Cut two 2-inch thick straps from cardboard long enough to hold the two cardboard rectangles in place along the collarbone.

  2. 2

Cover the ends of each cardboard rectangle in aluminium foil, extending 5 to 6 inches from the ends. Glue the foil in place with craft glue.

  3. 3

Cut two pieces of butcher paper large enough to fit on the rectangle, but leave about three inches of foil peeking through on both ends like a stick of gum.

  4. 4

Paint the butcher paper light green all over. Paint the cardboard straps green as well. Allow to dry for two hours.

  5. 5

Paint a large dark green double-sided arrow in the middle of the green paper so that the arrows point toward the top and bottom ends of the cardboard rectangles. The arrows should extend to within about six inches of the ends. Allow to dry for one hour.

  6. 6

Paint the word "DOUBLEMINT" centred in large white capital letters between the two heads of the arrow. Above the arrow, paint in red capital letters the word "Wrigley's." To be most accurate, the word "Wrigley's" should be shaped into an upward-pointing arc.

  7. 7

Paint a white circle in the vertical bottom of the front side of one of the papers. Outline the circle in dark green paint. After the paint dries, paint "Only 35 Cents" inside the circle. Use the cent sign just like the real Doublemint package.

  8. 8

Glue the paper pieces to the cardboard rectangles, making sure they overlap the foil end pieces so they look like giant wrapped pieces of Doublemint gum. Put the sweat suit on. Staple the straps to the cardboard rectangles, creating a sandwich sign-style costume. Put the gum wrapper over your head. The costume is complete.
