The Xerox WorkCentre 5632 is a multifunction office copier for medium-size offices. Its advanced capabilities include printing, scanning, copying and faxing in a seamless, network-connected way. With a tool as advanced as this workstation, however, it is often difficult to perform the initial configuration in order to maximise the usefulness and efficiency of the machine. As business network equipment is already quite complicated, it may be very difficult to add another isolated machine that does not have a normal computer screen and cannot display full instructions or error details.

    Ensure that the System Administration Program is installed on your computer. Your computer must be connected to the same network as your copier. This program can be downloaded from Xerox's support documentation. See the References section for a link. If possible, install the program on a portable computer so that you can read the instructions in the computer program while performing the set-up at the copier.

    Create a static IP address for your copier. While this is not a requirement (the System Administration Program also supports dynamic IP addresses), it will make managing and maintaining your copier much simpler. This static IP can be created in your network router user interface. Make sure you know the IP address of your router as well as the static IP you assigned to the copier--you'll need these later.

    Open the System Administration Program on your computer and read through the instructions to ensure that your copier is properly plugged in and connected to the network. In the Network section of the software, enter your operating system, select TCP/IP as your method of connection and choose "Static IP" as your installation method.

    On the copier itself, click the key icon (also known as the Access button) to enter the Tools menu. Log in as the administrator. Follow the instructions given in the software to enter your network information into the interface.

    Your copier will be connected to the network. If necessary, you can follow the instructions in the System Administration program to make the machine discoverable over the local network so that other computers in your office can automatically install the printer drivers (which is necessary in order to send print jobs to the copier).

Tips and warnings

  • The default administrator user name for this copier is "admin" and the default password is "1111," but it is highly recommended that you change these immediately after setting up your copier.
