Microsoft Silverlight was developed in order to enable users to create media and business applications. The free program allows you to take advantage of the different features that Silverlight supports, such as data integration, Deep Zoom and HD video, when you create your applications. Similar to other design programs, Silverlight allows users to record and design MouseOver states. The MouseOver feature is a tool used to change the appearance of a button, which can appear as a shape, text or picture, when you hover your mouse pointer over it.

  1. 1

Open your chosen button object in the Resources Panel. In this state, you can edit the object as you see fit.

  2. 2

Click on the States panel. You can set a control object, such as a button, to one of three states. These states are Normal, MouseOver and Pressed. In the States panel, you can also designate what happens when a user clicks the button, known as a Click event.

  3. 3

Select the MouseOver state. When you click the MouseOver state you turn on the MouseOver recording. You will see a red border around the Artboard, and will see a message indicating that you turned on the recording function that says: MouseOver state Recording is on.

  4. 4

Select the button. Clicking the button tells Silverlight that the button is the object you wish to apply the MouseOver state.

  5. 5

Make changes to the button using the tools in the Properties panel. You can change the colour, shape, size and borders of the object. You can make the changes pronounced or subtle depending on the design.

  6. 6

Click the red button on the Artboard. When you finish making the desired changes to the button, you need to stop the MouseOver state recording by clicking the red button. After stopping the recording, the MouseOver state of the button is set. To change the function of the MouseOver state, you must re-record the MouseOver state recording.
