How to Read an Unfinalized DVD-R

An unfinalized DVD-R is a disc that is currently storing files but has not yet been properly burnt. If you want to read an unfinalized DVD-R, you will need to do so on the computer that originally set it up. This is because this specific computer still has access to the files that are "to-be-burnt" onto the disc. Another computer that has had no previous contact with the disc will not be able to read it.

    Place your unfinalized DVD-R into the DVD burner of the computer that was used to create the DVD-R disc in the first place. Close the disc tray.

    Click "Start."

    Click "Computer."

    Double-click the icon for your unfinalized DVD-R. Your computer will read the disc and display its contents in a Windows Explorer window on screen.
