An unfinalized DVD-R is a disc that is currently storing files but has not yet been properly burnt. If you want to read an unfinalized DVD-R, you will need to do so on the computer that originally set it up. This is because this specific computer still has access to the files that are "to-be-burnt" onto the disc. Another computer that has had no previous contact with the disc will not be able to read it.
