Keeping track of your Windows Live contacts and your BlackBerry address book can get a bit confusing. To avoid that unnecessary confusion, many people will combine both contacts on their computer and BlackBerry smartphone. However, doing this all by hand can take you quite a long time. Instead of going through that hassle, you can import your Windows contacts to Windows Outlook, then simply sync the contacts from Outlook to your BlackBerry. This will take a fraction of the time that it takes to do it by hand.
Double-click "Windows Live Hotmail" and log in to your account. Click "Contacts."
Click "Options" from the toolbar menu. Select "Export Contacts" from the Options list.
Click "Export Contacts" while in the Export Contacts menu screen.
Click "Save" and save the contact file (WLMContacts.csv) on your Desktop.
Open Outlook on your computer, and select "File" at the top of the screen.
Click "Import and Export."
Select "Import From Another Program or File," then select "Next." Click "Comma Separated Values (DOS)," and click "Next" again.
Select the "Desktop" folder or icon on the left side of the Browse screen. Double-click the contact file "WLMContacts.csv," and click "OK."
Select how you want duplicate contacts processed under the title Options on the screen. You can choose to keep the duplicate contacts, or you can choose to delete one of the duplicates. Click "Next" when finished.
Select an Outlook folder where the Windows contacts will be saved, and click "Next."
Click "Finish" to complete the importing process. When the contacts are imported to Outlook, you can sync them to your BlackBerry.
Double-click on "BlackBerry Desktop Manager" on your computer. If you have not already downloaded this application, you will need to do so through the BlackBerry website (see Resources). Once the application is opened, connect your BlackBerry to your computer using a USB cable.
Select the "Synchronize" icon on the Desktop Manager welcome screen.
Click the "Configuration" tab, follwed by the "Configure Sync..." button.
Click to check the box to the left of "Address Book" on the Handheld Applications screen. Select "Microsoft Outlook" from the Available Applications list, then click "OK." Click "OK" at the bottom of the Handheld Applications screen.
Click the "Synchronize" tab, then select "Synchronize Now." Click "Accept" on the "Confirm Address Book Edits" dialogue box. You contacts from Windows will now be synced to your BlackBerry. Disconnect your BlackBerry from your computer when the sync is finished.
