Checking the balance of your MasterCard online is a simple, straightforward process that helps you to effectively manage your account. The process involves identifying the issuer of your MasterCard, creating a new user account and logging into the system. Regularly checking the balance on your MasterCard will help prevent you from going over your assigned balance, detect fraudulent purchases and keep you from incurring too much debt.
Locate the website for your issuer's online account management system by looking on the back of your MasterCard or finding the address on your statement.
Create a user account. On the main page, you will be presented with several options, one of which will be the option to register as a new user. Click on the button or link labelled "Register" and complete the online form. You will need to create a username and password in order to be able to log in for future sessions. It is important that you create a username and password combination that is easy for you to remember and hard for others to guess. Some issuers will require you to choose an image to go with your username and password combination. This is known as a second layer of authentication. It allows you to validate that the website you are entering your credentials on is the legitimate site.
Verify your account. Most MasterCard issuers will require that you validate your e-mail address by sending a verification e-mail to the email address you enter when you registered. To complete the verification, log into your e-mail account and click on the verification link located in the email sent by your issuer.
Log in. Now, type your username into the username box and your password into the password box. You may be required to respond to a security question and/or register the IP address of the computer you are using to access your account.
Review your account summary. The page you land on after you log in will display high-level information about your account including your credit line, your balance, your payment date and your available credit. You can focus on your transaction details by clicking on the account in the summary page.
Do not write down or make available your username and password as identity thieves and other fraudsters can easily gain access and exploit your MasterCard account.
