Over time, the door seal of Soft Wave machines gradually becomes contaminated with mildew and black mould. Black mould can be a severe health hazard. You can prevent mould growth by letting the door seal dry out when you're done with the wash, and regularly cleaning it out with disinfecting chemicals such as bleach. Sometimes, though, there's nothing left to do but replace the seal.

Unplug the machine and open it. Locate the crack where the plastic clamp band holds the seal onto the door. If the area is worn off or ragged, tear off the rough edges to make the removal easier. Do not pull too hard.
Insert the screwdriver or putty knife into the crack. Slide it around clockwise, all the way around, and work the area back and forth.
Peel the seal off carefully from the door frame. Tug gently but firmly to avoid ripping a well-worn seal.
Clean the area where the seal used to be with a cloth and mild soap, removing any built-up dirt that will interfere with the replacement of the seal.
Slide the new door seal into the groove. Spread the seal around so that it fits into the door evenly.
Pop the band back into place. Work the seal all around and press firmly. This ensures that the replacement goes smoothly. To test the job, tug at the newly replaced seal.
