Motion Eye is the built-in camera on Sony VAIO computer systems. With Motion Eye, you can capture both still and moving images. This is convenient to add webcam photos to a profile page for a social networking site, or to capture video of yourself providing direction or giving commentary for a website or blog. Motion Eye utilises the ArcSoft software which comes pre-installed on Sony computer systems. If, for some reason you no longer have this software installed, you can download it from Sony's website.

  4. 4

Tilt the Motion Eye camera so it is facing you or the intended object or person. You should now see the person or object in the webcam software screen.

  5. 5

Adjust the Motion Eye settings. Hit the "webcam Settings" option and adjust the hue, brightness, sharpness, saturation, gamma and backlight by adjusting the corresponding sliders to the left or right. Hit "Apply" and "OK."

  6. 6

Add a fun frame to the captured image. Hit the "Fun Frame" icon at the top of the webcam Companion interface. Select a frame or border from the provided selections. The frame appears over the image in the main pane.

  7. 7

Hit the "Take a Picture" icon to capture still images, or "Record a Video" icon to capture moving images. To stop a recording, hit the same "Record a Video" icon. The image or video appears in the left pane.

    Use Motion Eye for Surveillance

  1. 1

Open the webcam Companion software from the "All Programs" folder in the desktop "Start" menu.

  2. 2

Select the "Surveillance" option in webcam Companion. The camera begins capturing whatever it is pointing toward.

  3. 3

Choose the motion detector threshold at the bottom of the software interface; the lower the threshold, the higher the sensitivity. Disable or enable the "Face Detection" by selecting the option. Hit the "webcam Settings" icon at the top of the screen to adjust settings related to hue, brightness, contrast and sharpness.

  4. 4

Hit the "Start Monitor" to begin surveillance. Notice that it automatically notifies you of how much surveillance time you have, such as 587h41m equals 587 hours and 41 minutes. To end surveillance, select "Stop Monitor." The captured video appears in the left pane.
