The BIOS battery enables certain features on the Acer Aspire 3680 (and other computers) to remain functional even when the power is off. The BIOS battery, or CMOS battery, rarely burns out. When it does, however, some unusual issues may arise. Although the BIOS battery can't be repaired, replacing it is easy to do.

Disassemble the Aspire laptop. Start by pulling out the rubber grommets around the monitor and successively opening screws.
Find access to the motherboard. Then, locate the CMOS battery: flat and similar in appearance to a watch battery. Usually, it is a 3-volt battery.
Take the battery to a battery supplier. Ask the supplier to find a battery with identical specifications.
Replace the battery and reassemble the Acer Aspire 3680.
