How to import multi-page word documents into indesign

Updated April 17, 2017

The InDesign program of Adobe's Creative Suite allows you to have precise control over typography, as the program has built-in creative tools for designing, preflighting and publishing documents for print or online. Because this software is useful for publishing, you may want to transfer a multipage Word Document into InDesign so you can have more control of the design and layout. Instead of copying the text page by page from Word into InDesign, import the whole Word Document at once to save time. Follow the same steps for both Mac and PC.

Go to File menu and select "New."

Select "Document" and press the "OK" tab. This will bring up a new single-page document.

Go back to File and select "Place." This will bring up files that can be imported into InDesign.

Select the desired Word Document and click "OK."

Hold down "Shift" on your keyboard and click on the first page of the document. This will import the pages from that Word file to InDesign and automatically create the necessary pages.
