While holding your iPhone is the default way for placing and answering calls the device has a Bluetooth feature that provides hands-free chatting. A third-party Bluetooth device connects to the phone and, depending on the available buttons, can be used to answer phone calls rather than touching the iPhone's screen. Check your Bluetooth device's manual to determine compatibility with the iPhone, as some Bluetooth devices may not work.

Click "Settings" and "General" to view the iPhone's settings screen.
Power on your Bluetooth headset and click "Bluetooth" on your iPhone's screen.
