Keeping hardware device drivers updated is an important maintenance aspect of owning a computer. Device drivers--the software programs Windows uses to control the hardware in a computer--are frequently updated by computer manufacturers to introduce new features or resolve problems found after the hardware is released. If you need to update or download the device driver for the Ethernet adaptor in your Compaq Presario C700 laptop, you can find the driver at the official HP support website.

Click the pull-down menu under "Select your operating system," and select "Microsoft Windows Vista" or "Microsoft Windows Vista (64-bit)."
