The Brother MFC-240C printer has an ink-level indicator for each of its ink cartridges. After replacing a cartridge, the display screen gives a user the option of resetting the ink counter. If you forgot to reset it after replacing a cartridge, you can re-access the system and reset the specific ink-level indicator. Resetting the ink counter is not helpful if you have not replaced the specific ink cartridge.

Open the printer's front service panel to access the ink cartridges. Push down the release lever on one of the ink cartridges.
Slide out the ink cartridge, then reinsert it. If you have not recently replaced the ink cartridge, go ahead and replace it with a new one instead of reinserting the old one. Resetting the ink counter doesn't do any good if the ink cartridge is nearly empty.
Push up the release lever to secure the ink cartridge, then close the front service panel. The LCD screen will ask if you replaced an ink cartridge.
Press "1" for "Yes" for each ink cartridge for which you want to reset the counter. Press "2" for "No" if you did not replace the displayed cartridge and do not want to reset a specific cartridge's counter. The ink counter resets to 100 per cent on each cartridge for which you select "1."
