How to Use the Motion Eye on Sony VAIO

The Sony VAIO Motion Eye camera can be used to take still and video images. Before you can use the camera, you must install the Motion Eye driver, which is downloadable from the Sony eSupport website. The camera swivels, making it possible to take images facing away from your computer or facing yourself.

Go to the Sony eSupport site (

Type "Motion Eye" in the search box and hit enter.

From the search results, find the Windows system you are running and click on the appropriate link.

Click on "Download Now" and save the file to your computer.

Double-click on the downloaded file to begin the installation process and restart your computer when the installation is complete.

Press the "Capture" button (to the right of the power button).

Choose "Still Viewer / Long Movie Player / Net Movie Player" from the list of applications.

Click on the on screen "Capture Mode" icon to pick still images.

Once the finder window opens, turn the Motion Eye camera lens towards your subject.

Half press the Capture button to preview a picture. Fully press the Capture button to take a picture and see it displayed in the viewer window on your computer screen.

Turn the camera to face yourself. This will put the utility into "Mirror Mode."

Select the image size you want to take: 640x480 pixels, 320x240, 160x120 or 80x60.

Fully press the "Capture" button to take your photo. The mirror image will flip once the image is taken.

Press the "Capture" button.

Choose "Still Viewer / Long Movie Player / Net Movie Player" from the list of applications.

Click on "Change Capture Mode" or use the Jog Dial to switch to "Motion" from "Still."

Click on "Viewer / Movie Player" from the list of applications.

Choose "Still" mode.

Click on "Options" to open the Options dialogue box.

From the "Capturing" tab, click on "Self-timer capture" and click "OK." The self timer will give you a 10-second delay after you press the "Capture" button.


Turn the ring at the top of the camera to adjust the focus. To use the eSupport site, you will need to know your computer's model number. If you browse to the site on your VAIO, you can use the auto-detect feature that is built into the website.
