Votives candles can light up a backyard patio party with simple holders that can be attached to tree branches. These charming holders will add sparkle and glamour to a summer evening, or can be used as outdoor decorations during the holidays. Choose summer votive candles that match the patio furniture or plain white votives wrapped with a green or red ribbon for the holidays. Making the hanging votive holders requires no special equipment.

  1. 1

Measure around the top edge of the jam jars with the tape measure. Add 2 inches.

  2. 2

Cut a piece of wire to the measurement with the wire cutters.

  3. 3

Wrap the wire around the top of the jar, under the lip. Twist the ends of the wire to attach it securely to the jar.

  4. 4

Cut a second piece of wire 8 inches long for a hanger. Push the ends of the hanger wire under the rim wire, at opposite ends of the jar rim, and twist the ends to secure the hanger.

  5. 5

Attach the coloured glass nuggets to the outside of the jam jar with the epoxy glue in a decorative pattern around the bottom of the jar.

  6. 6

Place the votive in the jam jar. Wrap ribbon around the outside of the jar, if desired.

  7. 7

Cut the metal chain to 6 inches. Insert an "S" hook in each end of the chain.

  8. 8

Insert one end of the "S" hook in the votive handle and hook the other end over a small tree branch. Secure the "S" hook at the tree branch with putty.
