The IBM ThinkPad T42 is a thin and light laptop. At just 1.1 inches thin with the 14.1-inch screen closed, the laptop offers good portability. It even comes with fingerprint identification technology to replace cumbersome passwords. The number lock key on the T42 is a little unusual, but once you've located it you'll be able to switch between number lock on and number lock off by simply pressing a key.

    Locate the "Num Lock" key on your keypad. The "Num Lock" key looks like the number "1" inside an arrow and is located on the top right of the keyboard.

    Press down the "Num Lock" key.

    Press the "Shift" key while still holding down the "Num Lock" key.

Tips and warnings

  • Don't connect an external keypad to the T42 if you want to type using letters. If you do, the Num Lock will turn on and you'll be unable to use the alpha keyboard to type letters.
