A USB IDE controller is an internally installed USB data port connection that allows you to hook up USB-based hardware directly to the computer. This includes everything from a scanner and printer, to an external floppy disk drive. Having a floppy disk drive installed on the computer gives you the ability to view data saved on the older disk format without purchasing a computer that has the drive built directly into the hardware.

Instructions

  1. 1

Connect the floppy disk drive to a local power outlet. Power on the computer and the floppy disk drive.

  2. 2

Plug the USB data cable into the USB port on the floppy disk drive. Insert the opposite end of the cable into one of the USB ports on the USB IDE controller connection port.

  3. 3

Open the disc drive on the computer, then insert the driver installation CD into the drive and close the tray. In a moment a driver installation wizard appears on the screen.

  4. 4

Accept the license agreement, leave the installation location and name as the current, default settings, then choose "Install."

  5. 5

Restart the computer once the driver installation is complete and the floppy disk drive is ready for use.
