How to Print Price Tags
Design and print price tags online (Wurst Mettwurst image by Stihl024 from Fotolia.com)

You can create price tags with graphic design or word processing software but directions for each will vary. In all cases you will need to print the tags either on paper cardstock or on labels. Avery Dennison Company offers a free design application on their website, Avery.com, allowing anyone to design a custom product for free and then print it on their home computer, without third-party software. Avery paper products come with template numbers to help users design documents and labels, but you can use any brand of paper or labels to create price tags.

Instructions

  1. 1

Visit Avery.com and click "Design and Print Online" in the Quicklinks menu in the upper right corner of the webpage. A new page will open.

  2. 2

Click "Start Now" in the main window of the page. A new pop-up window will open, prompting you to complete a contact information form. You can elect not to receive e-mails from Avery at the bottom of the screen. Complete the required information and click "OK."

  3. 3

Select the type of labels you would like to print by typing a search word or scrolling through the product list. If you are using card stock and will cut out price tags to be inserted in or tied onto products, you can scroll through the entire Avery line of labels until you find the size and shape you wish to print. If you are printing stickers or labels, check the label packaging for an Avery template number. You can enter the label dimensions of the brand you purchased and enter them in the search window. Once satisfied, click "Next."

  4. 4

Select the category of label you wish to design. You can also select a blank tag to insert text and art later. Click the shape in the main design window. A design screen will open to a table of blank labels that is a mock-up of the final printed sheet of tags. Click the first tag with your mouse and use the tools on the right side of the application screen to design the tags. When finished, click "Next."

  5. 5

Elect to print your tags now or save the file for printing at a later time.

Tips and warnings

  • Save the file and then print if you think you will need to print more tags in the future.
  • On the design screen, tags are ordered in a table. If you want a full page of the same lable, only modify the first tag in the table. If you want to make successive changes on the label, change the tags in order.
  • Clicking and modifying one tag will change all the successive tags, in order.
