The CMOS settings are where your computer stores information about the amount of memory installed in the computer, the size of the hard drive and any add-on devices on the unit. When these settings become corrupted, the computer can behave in unexpected ways. Clearing the CMOS settings allows the Compaq D510 to recover from these problems by restoring the proper settings. Clearing the CMOS is not difficult, but you do need to follow the proper steps.
