A surname is a family name, or last name, of an individual. This last name is passed down from generation to generation. One of the first cultures to begin using surnames to distinguish two people with the same first name were the Chinese. By the 10th and 11th centuries, most of Europe had adopted surnames. Identifying a person’s address by his surname has become easier as technology has advanced. Although many people have the same last names as others, it is still possible to find someone by their surname.
Go to a people or address search website such as WhitePages.com, Addresses.com or AnyWho.com.
Click on the box labelled “Last Name,” which usually has an asterisk next to it. The asterisk is an indication of the fields that must be completed in order to find an individual’s address.
Enter the city, zip code, area code or state of the individual if known. The more of this information you have, the easier it will be to find the address.
Click the “Find” or “Search” button. The people search will bring up a list of individuals with the surname you entered in the “Last Name” field.
Scroll down the list of names until you locate the person you are looking for.
Enter the first name of the person, if known, in the “First Name” field to narrow down your search results.
