How to Sign Up for Email on AOL

Updated March 23, 2017

If you use AOL to keep up with the news or search the Internet, you have probably noticed that the company offers an e-mail service. If you want to sign up for a free AOL e-mail account, it takes little time to do so. After you register for AOL, you can also use your AOL user name to sign in to AOL Instant Messenger so you can chat with your friends.

Go to AOL.com and click the orange "AOL Mail" button. When the AOL Mail page opens, click "Sign up for a free account."

Enter your first and last name in the boxes next to "Name," then create a user name for your account. If the name you want is not available, enter a different choice or choose one of the suggested names.

Create a password for your AOL e-mail account and then verify the password. The password must be at least six characters long and can consist of letters and numbers.

Click the box next to "Set a Security Question" to choose a security question and then provide an answer for the question in the box next to "Your Answer." If you forget your password, you can reset it by entering the security answer you provided when you registered your account.

Enter your Postcode, birth date, and gender.

Type the letters and numbers from the security image in the code verification box and click "Submit." You will be taken to your AOL in-box. You can now send and receive e-mail messages with your AOL account.
