How to Get SIM Card Contacts on an iPhone

Updated February 21, 2017

If you have recently purchased an iPhone, you'll likely want to transfer contacts from an old cell phone onto your new iPhone. One method of transferring contacts is to import them from your old cell phone's SIM card. Your iPhone will be able to recognise and import contacts from any SIM card from any cell phone carrier.

Turn off your iPhone if it is currently powered on. Hold down the "Power" button for at least three seconds, then slide your finger across the "Swipe to power off" bar.

Open the SIM card holder using an unravelled paper clip. Press the paper clip into the SIM release hole located next to the headphones jack.

Insert the SIM card that contains the contact information you want to import into the iPhone's SIM card holder. Push the SIM card holder back into the iPhone and turn the phone back on.

Tap the "Settings" icon, which is a silver icon with an image of gears on it.

Tap "Mail, Contacts, Calendars" inside of the "Settings" menu.

Tap "Import SIM Contacts," which is located near the bottom of the "Mail, Contacts, Calendars" menu. All of the contacts from your SIM card are imported onto your iPhone.
