Because broadband Internet is widely available, most PC users are using their webcams for online meetings or social networking. Webcam problems could simply mean that no image is on the screen, or you might get an error message. You may even find that your webcam isn't an option you can choose for your video output. You can take some steps to troubleshoot the problems with your webcam.

    Plug your webcam into your computer, making sure it is turned on and the USB cable is properly inserted.

    Go to the Control Panel in your Start menu and find the Device Manager menu and make sure your webcam is listed. If it is not listed, it means it hasn't been installed properly.

    On the Device Manager menu, right-click on the video option and choose "Update Driver Software."

  4. 4

    Go back to the Control Panel menu and click on "Add or Remove programs" and remove the software associated with the webcam. Reinstall the software and webcam from scratch.
