Although scarves have been fashion accessories of women for years, it has recently become more fashionable and acceptable for men to wear them. For many years, it was considered feminine to wear scarves as an accessory. However, men's scarves portray a sense of royalty and luxury, but they also convey a gentle charm and vivacity. There are many different shapes, sizes, colours and prints of scarves, and tying them is as easy as wearing them.

Skill level:
Moderately Easy

    A Quick Wrap

  1. 1

Hold the scarf with both hands. Be sure to hold the scarf near its ends.

  2. 2

Wrap around the neck. Letting the scarf hang down in the front of the body is an easy and quick method of wearing a silk tie. It would be acceptable to stop the wrapping here. If the scarf is not worn with a jacket, continue to step 3.

  3. 3

Take one end of the scarf in one hand. Wrap the scarf around the neck twice, leaving both ends to hang down in front of the body. Loosen the scarf up for a more casual look. If the scarf is too tight, it can cause problems with breathing.

    The Triangle Wrap

  1. 1

Unfold the scarf, so it lies flat. Silk scarves can be difficult to fold, because the fabric is so smooth. Pick any corner and carry it to the opposite corner diagonally. This results in a triangular shape.

  2. 2

Hold the triangle up, letting the pointy side hang down. Wrap the scarf around the neck and tie a knot. If the scarf is left hanging loosely, it gives off a more casual appeal. Using bright colours, patterns and prints will also make the look more casual, rather than formal.

  3. 3

Tighten the scarf for a formal look by tying the knot in front of the neck instead of behind the neck. The puffed up scarf in the front should be able to cover up the knot, which is preferred by some scarf wearers. However, the appearance of the knot is a personal choice.

Tips and warnings

  • Do not tighten the scarf too tightly around the neck, as it can cause breathing problems and restrict the airways. Always leave at least two fingers thickness between the neck and the scarf.
