You can use your microwave to make high quality candles. Using microwaveable soy wax, you can make scented, coloured, or plain candles without purchasing all of the traditional candle-making equipment used for making other candles. Microwaveable candles burn, smell, and look no different from other candles. Try making your own soy candles, using your microwave, to give away as gifts or burn at home.
Fill your glass measuring cup with enough wax flakes to fill your jar or tin.
Place the measuring cup in the microwave and melt the wax according to the instructions on the product labelling. It is very important to follow the instructions carefully, as the manufacturer has tested melting temperatures and melting times to provide you with the best results.
Add your wax dye into the molten wax and stir it with a metal spoon to make the colour even.
Pour some scented candle oil into your molten wax and add it slowly until your scent preference is met. The more scent oil you add to the wax, the more fragrant your candle will be when you burn it.
Check the temperature of the wax with a candy thermometer before pouring it into your jar or tin. Look at the wax packaging for the pouring temperature of your specific wax.
Dip the tab of a pre-tabbed wick into the melted wax and press it into the bottom of the jar or tin you are using. Dipping the tab in the wax will keep the wick in place as you pour the wax.
Pour the wax into your jar or tin once it has cooled to the pouring temperature. Allow the wax to cool overnight before burning.
