How to Reset the Warning Lights on a 2005 Mazda RX8

Updated March 23, 2017

The warning lights on your 2005 Mazda RX8 can indicate a serious problem with your RX8's emissions system, oil pressure, tire pressure or several other systems. The check engine light can also indicate that regular maintenance needs to be done on your car. If you ignore the warning lights, you could do serious damage to your car. However, once you've fixed the problem, you'll need to reset the warning lights on your RX8 or the lights will stay on and you will have trouble identifying future warnings.

Open the fuse panel cover under the steering column by pulling down on it with your hands.

Locate the fuse for the ECU--the engine control unit--in the fuse panel. Use the fuse diagram on the underside of the fuse panel cover.

Pull the fuse for the ECU using the fuse pullers in the fuse panel.

Turn the ignition to the "II" or "on" position (the second position in the ignition) and wait two to three minutes.

Turn off the ignition.

Reinsert the fuse for the ECU and turn the ignition back on and verify that the warning lights have gone out.
