You can simplify driving to friend's house or finding a petrol station by using the Garmin Nuvi. The Garmin Nuvi is a navigation device that utilises global satellites to provide you with accurate audible and visual directions. Occasionally, you may experience technical issues with your Garmin such as depleted battery, poor signal, or an unresponsive touch screen. However, you may be able to prevent or resolve technical issues by performing a few manual tasks.

Skill level:

    No Signal

  1. 1

Attach your Garmin to the front windshield, place it on the dashboard of your automobile or another location where it can receive a clear satellite signal.

  2. 2

Keep your Garmin out of areas where a signal cannot be received, such as buildings, garages or tunnels.

  3. 3

Reboot your Garmin if it does not pick up the satellite signal or freezes. Slide and hold the power bar in the "Off" position for approximately 15 seconds and then power it back on.

    Battery Not Charging

  1. 1

Allow your Garmin Nuvi to completely discharge. Leave the mechanism powered on while it is disconnected from a power supply. After the discharge is complete, connect your Garmin to a power outlet in your automobile or a computer USB port and allow it to fully recharge.

  2. 2

Protect your Garmin from direct sunlight exposure. Direct sunlight can cause the battery to overheat and not charge.

  3. 3

Reduce the risk of overexposing your Garmin to sunlight by placing it in an automobile compartment when it is not in use or parking in a shaded area.

    Touch Screen Issues

  1. 1

Recalibrate your Garmin if your touch screen is not responding correctly. Turn off the Garmin by sliding the power bar to the left.

  2. 2

Turn on the machine by sliding the power bar to the right (lock) position and hold it there.

  3. 3

Hold the power bar in the "ON" (lock) position and simultaneously touch the Garmin screen with your finger. Hold both positions until you can see the message "Press Dot" displayed on the screen. This message should display in approximately 30 seconds.

  4. 4

Press the dot as it moves about the screen. After the calibration is complete, you can see the message "Calibration Complete."
