The Garmin eTrex Venture HC is a hand held GPS unit that provides real time directions to your destinations. The eTrex Venture HC works by connecting with satellites to determine your location and then create directions to your destination based on your location. In order to create routes to your destinations, you need to create waypoints, which are locations saved to the unit.

Skill level:

  1. 1

Press in on the thumb stick from the map page to create a new waypoint. The "Mark Waypoint" menu will appear on the screen.

  2. 2

Input new latitude and longitude coordinates, if you are creating a waypoint for a different location. The latitude and longitude information of your current location is automatically entered. To change the coordinate information, highlight the "Location" information field and input the new coordinates with the onscreen keyboard.

  3. 3

Change the name of the waypoint by highlighting the "Name" field and pressing in on the thumb stick. Enter the name for the waypoint by scrolling through the letters and numbers with the thumb stick and then pressing in on the stick.

  4. 4

Set a new symbol for the waypoint by selecting the "Symbol" field and scrolling through the available symbols.

  5. 5

Save the waypoint by highlighting "OK" and pressing in on the thumb stick.

  1. 1

Select "Menu" from the main screen and choose "Route." A list of previously programmed routes will appear on the screen.

  2. 2

Choose the "New" button located on the bottom of the screen.

  3. 3

Enter a saved waypoint or favourite by pressing in on the thumb stick when an empty row is highlighted. The "Find" menu will appear on the screen.

  4. 4

Open "Add to Route" to display your waypoints and favourites.

  5. 5

Select a waypoint by highlighting it and then pressing in on the thumb stick. The waypoint is added to your "Route" window.

  6. 6

Repeat Steps 3 through 5 for each additional waypoint you want to add to the route.

  7. 7

Receive the directions by pressing the "Navigate" button on the bottom of the screen.
