Make your own hanging candle holders to save money. Hanging candle holders make great decorations for events such as parties and weddings. You can even decorate your home with them to add interest to any room. Heavy wire adds the best support for hanging a candle holder because of its strength and durability. 1. 1

Clean out the baby food jars. Once the baby food jars are clean, dry them out with a towel to remove any moisture.

  2. 2

Pour in 1 to 2 inches of decorative sand. The sand will catch any melted wax, prevent the candle from burning the glass and add a decorative appeal.

  3. 3

Add a tea candle to the baby food jar. Place it in the centre of the jar.

  4. 4

Wrap the heavy wire around the jar’s rim. Make a loop up and back down to the rim to determine the length of wire needed for the handle. Add an extra inch of wire to this measurement, and then use wire cutters to cut the length of wire needed.

  5. 5

Remove the wire from the jar. Keep the shape of the wire you bent around the rim. Create a small loop on each wire end. Use pliers to make the small loop. The loops must be ¼ to ½ inch long, and they do not need to close completely yet.

  6. 6

Place the wire loop closest to the rim shape onto the wire. This will close the wire, and it will be the size of the jar’s rim. Use your pliers to close the loop and pinch it shut.

  7. 7

Place the second loop onto the wire that represents the rim of the jar. This will be opposite of the first loop, and will create the handle for the holder. Use the pliers to pinch this loop closed tightly.

  8. 8

Add the wire ring to the jar’s rim. Pull tightly on the wire to make sure that it is secure. Pull on the wire loop to make sure that the second loop stays closed and remains tight. Use your pliers to make any necessary adjustments.

  9. 9

Find a location on your ceiling to hang the candle holders. Drill a hold into the ceiling as a starter for the screw hook. Carefully screw the hook into the starter hole until it feels secure. Place the wire handle around the hook.

Tips and warnings

  • The longer you make the wire, the lower the candle holder will hang from the ceiling.
