Make a one-of-a-kind work of art using all the spare plastic beads you may have hanging around from other projects. You can use pony beads or any type of plastic beads for this simple but attractive bowl project. Be sure to do your melted bead bowl project on a warm day so that you can open up your windows and ventilate your work area because the smell can be overpowering.

Instructions

  1. 1

Select a metal or stoneware bowl for your mould in the size and shape that you want your melted bead bowl to be. Make sure that whatever type of bowl you choose has a flat bottom.

  2. 2

Line a baking tray with aluminium foil. Place your selected beads on the baking tray. Lay out the beads in a single layer in any design or arrangement you want or place them randomly. Do not leave any empty spaces between the beads or your bowl will have holes when you are done. Place the beads so that they are sitting with the hole side facing up and down.

  3. 3

Bake the beads at 121 degrees Cor about 20 minutes. Check on the beads every five minutes; baking times may vary. When the beads are thoroughly melted they should be laying flat and you will no longer be able to see the holes.

  4. 4

Cover your work area with waxed paper and turn your selected mould upside down. Remove the baking tray from the oven and lift the foil and the melted beads and flip the entire thing over your mould. The beads should be next to the mould with the foil on top.

  5. 5

Press the foil against the mould making sure that you press it against the flat bottom of the mould so that your new bowl will sit right. Press and shape the melted beads against the side of the mould.

  6. 6

Allow everything to cool for about 30 minutes. Peel off the aluminium foil and then pop your new bowl off of the mould.

Tips and warnings

  • You can use plastic pieces that are sold for floral arrangements instead of beads.
