How to Program an RCA Systemlink 4 Remote Control

Updated February 21, 2017

The RCA Systemlink 4 is a universal remote control you can use to operate up to four different devices in your home entertainment centre. In order to use the Systemlink 4 with your component devices, you need to program the remote control. You have two different options for programming the remote: manual code entry, which is the easiest method for programming the remote, and code search, which is time-consuming.

Look in the back of the Systemlink 4 instruction manual for the codes that connect your device to the remote control. The devices are listed in alphabetical order by manufacturer. Many devices have several code options.

Turn on the device you want to program.

Hold the "Code Search" button on the remote control until the indicator light turns on.

Press the device button on the remote control that corresponds with the device you are programming. For example, if you are programming a television, press the "TV" button. The indicator light will flash one time and then stay lit.

Enter the first code from the list for your device manufacturer using the number keypad. The indicator light will shut off if the code is entered correctly. If entered incorrectly, the light will blink rapidly, and you'll have to start over again.

Point the remote at the device and press the "On/Off" button. If the code you entered works with that device, it will turn off. Otherwise, repeat Steps 3-5 with the next code on the list, and continue until you've tried each code for that manufacturer. If none of the codes works with your device, perform a code search.

Power on the device you want to control with the Systemlink 4.

Press the "Code Search" button and hold it down until the indicator light turns on, and then press the device button that corresponds to your device. The indicator light will blink once and then remain lit.

Point the remote control at the device and press the "On/Off" button repeatedly until the device turns off. You may have to press the button up to 200 times before you find the correct code.

Press the "Enter" button on the remote control when the device turns off. This will save the code to your remote control.

The code search method can take a long time to complete. Use the manual code entry method of programming the Systemlink 4 whenever possible.
