It's quick and easy to transform your child's towel into a bathrobe that can be used at the beach, at the pool or in the comfort of your own home. Towel bathrobes stay on better than regular towels, and they are cute and comfortable, too. Once you've made the basic robe, you can decorate by adding buttons or adding characters or designs in applique.

Things you need
- Bath towel
- Pen or marker
- Buttons (optional)
- Applique shape (optional)
Fold your towel in half.
Draw the bathrobe shape on your folded towel--the fold should be at the top of your shape. Leave about 6 inches at the top for the sleeves, then mark the length of your bathrobe with a pen or a marker about 6 inches in from each side of the fabric. Your central panel for the bathrobe should be about 18 inches wide and 20 inches in height assuming your towel rectangle is 30 inches wide and 27 inches tall.
Cut out the shape you marked with scissors, leaving the top fold intact.
Mark a 9-inch semicircle at the top of the fabric, and cut out the neckline from the top fold through both layers of fabric, leaving the rest of the fold intact on either side of the neckline.
Getting the towel ready for transformation
Sew along the edges of the fabric starting at the bottom and moving up. (Do not sew the bottom edge--this needs to stay open). When you reach the arm holes, sew along the bottom edge of the arm holes only.
Draw a line along the centre of the front side of the robe, and cut along this line only on one side of the fabric to make the opening of the robe.
Fold in half an inch of material along the bottom of the robe, up the centre cut, along the armholes and the neckline and pin as you go to make the hems.
Sew the hems that you marked.
Sewing the Robe
Add buttons and button holes to the front of the robe, or belt the robe with a sash.
Decorate the robe with applique shapes.
Add a hood by folding a hand towel in half lengthwise. Position it so that the fold is on the side. Sew the upper seam, and attach the lower seam to the back of the bathrobe neckline.
