Replacing the seat in your Ford Escort will take a matter of minutes as the seat is held on by four bolts connecting the seat and the rail to the floorboard. You can purchase a replacement seat at your local parts store or find a great deal on a seat at the local junkyard. The Escort seat is interchangeable with a good portion of Ford vehicles and most junkyards can give you a compatibility read out to determine what is most suitable for your Ford Escort.

Instructions

    Removing the Old Seat

  1. 1

Slide the seat all the way back. You will need the extra room to access the front bolts.

  2. 2

Locate the front bolts holding the seat to the floor board. They will be located on the outer corner of each side of the seat.

  3. 3

Unscrew each bolt with a socket wrench. Remove the bolts once they are loose.

  4. 4

Slide the seat to the front. This will give you access to the back bolts.

  5. 5

Remove the bolts with the socket wrench. Take the bolts out once they are loosened.

  6. 6

Lift the seat up to inspect for any wiring running from the seat to the floorboard. The wiring can be unclipped by holding the tabs of the quick connect fitting and pulling out and away from the other end of the wiring.

  7. 7

Remove the seat by taking it out by the driver door. The seat should come right out.

    Installing the New Seat

  1. 1

Place the new seat in the correct position. Connect any wires before bolting the seat down. Tilt the seat forward so the headrest is resting on the steering wheel. Connect the wires from the back seat.

  2. 2

Line the seat to the existing holes in the floorboard. Start the back bolts but do not tighten.

  3. 3

Position the seat to the back position to have room to start the front bolts.

  4. 4

Tighten the front bolts with the socket wrench. Push the seat forward to tighten the back bolts. Ensure all the bolts are tight.

  5. 5

Test all the seat functions to ensure they operate correctly. The new seat is properly installed.

Tips and warnings

  • Watch out for the seat belt assembly when removing the seat. You may want to tie the seat belt away from the seat if it is interfering with the removal.
  • Use caution when lifting the seat out of the vehicle. The seat is heavy.
