When you purchase a new computer, you will almost certainly want to take your web browser favourites or bookmarks, back them up, and transfer them to the new machine. Every web browser contains a feature allowing you to do this with relatively little effort. Move your browser favourites to a removable storage device such as a flash drive to transfer them to a new computer.

- Removable storage media (e.g., flash drive, memory card or disk)
Right click on the desktop, and create a new folder. Name it "Favorites."
Click the "Start" button in Windows XP, then click "My Computer." Double click the "C:" drive, the "Documents and Settings" folder, the folder with your Windows user name, and the "Favorites" folder.
In Windows Vista and 7, click the "Start" button, then click "Computer." Double click the "C:" drive, the "Users" folder, the folder with your Windows user name, and the "Favorites" folder.
Click on any item in the "Favorites" folder, then hit the "Ctrl" and "A" keys on the keyboard simultaneously to highlight everything in the folder. Hit the "Ctrl" and "C" keys to copy your favourites.
Open the "Favorites" folder that you created on the desktop. Click inside the folder, and hit the "Ctrl" and "V" keys simultaneously. Your favourites will be copied into the folder.
Move the "Favorites" folder from the desktop to a removable storage device and move the device to the new computer.
Copy everything from the "Favorites" folder on the removable storage device to the "Favorites" folder on the new computer using the steps described above. The favourites will appear in internet Explorer when you launch the browser.

Launch Firefox. Click "Bookmarks," then click "Organize Bookmarks."
Click "Import and Backup," then click "Backup."
Browse to your removable storage device, type a file name, and click "Save." Transfer the storage device to the new computer.
Launch Firefox on the new computer. Click "Bookmarks," then click "Organize Bookmarks."
Click "Import and Backup," "Restore" and "Choose File."
Browse to the removable storage device, and double click the backup file. Your bookmarks will be imported into Firefox.
