The rear seat in a Honda Civic hatchback can be removed if you need extra space or you need to replace the carpet in your Civic. The rear seat is a bench seat, and although you don't need any special tools, the job may take you at least an hour. It will be much easier with the help of an assistant when physically removing the rear seat.

Things you need

  1. 1

Open the rear hatch on the Civic by pulling the release lever located to the left of the driver's seat on the floor (next to the gas filler door release).

  2. 2

Remove the mounting bolts that hold the Civic's rear seat in place. The mounting bolts are located at the base of the seat in each corner of the seat and in the centre of the seat. The bolts are bolted to the chassis of the car.

  3. 3

Pull the seat up to separate it from the floor.

  4. 4

Pull the rear seat out of the back of the hatchback. You may need a friend to help you remove the seat as it is a bit awkward and heavy to do yourself.
