Static cling can ruin your outfit and even your hair. Your look can quickly turn unattractive when your skirt sticks to the back of your legs (raising your skirt hem to an inappropriate height) or hair stands on end. Static cling shows up even more in winter because the air can get very dry. There are a few things you can do to fight static cling and ensure your hair and skirts lie flat.

- Anti-static brush
- Dryer sheets
Fill your humidifier with water (per instructions) and turn it on. This will increase the humidity in your home and decrease the dryness. With the extra humidity, you'll notice that you hair and clothes have less static and your skin will be less dry.
Wash your hair regularly with shampoo and follow with conditioner. Conditioner doesn't just leave your hair soft and silky, it also helps to prevent static cling. Using a conditioner every day will help reduce the static. There are even anti-static shampoos and conditioners available at drug or beauty supply stores. (Pantene Pro-V, John Frieda and Jon Renau all have anti-static shampoos and conditioners on the market.)
Spray a little hairspray into a regular brush or an anti-static brush. Brush your hair, focusing on the roots first to tame fly-aways. If your hair still has some static in it, spray a small amount of hairspray onto your fingers and smooth down your hair. Be careful not to apply too much hairspray or gel or your hair will look hard and crunchy.
Throw the articles of clothing that you want to wear into the dryer on a low heat setting along with three dryer sheets. The dryer sheets will reduce the static in the clothes. After 15 minutes, pull the clothes out and put them on.
You can also wipe a dryer sheet over your hair to prevent static.
Spray a little hairspray directly onto your legs or the inside of your trousers, skirt or dress. This will give you some added protection against static cling. You can also try anti-static spray, available at drug, discount and grocery stores.
