How to Put Songs on an iPod Shuffle Without iTunes

Updated February 21, 2017

Released in January 2005, the iPod Shuffle is a smaller and less expensive version of the popular portable music player made by Apple. As with every iPod, users can add and delete songs from the Shuffle using the software program iTunes. This can be a burden for iPod owners who do not enjoy using iTunes. There is a free software program you can download that can be used for adding songs to your iPod Shuffle.

Plug your iPod Shuffle into your computer and open iTunes. Once iTunes is open, click on the iPod Shuffle located on the left side of the program. Then, click the "Settings" tab at the top of the program. Once you've done this, click the "Restore" tab in the middle of the program. You must restore your iPod to the factory settings first. When the iPod Shuffle is fully restored, close the iTunes program. Be aware that this will erase anything you have put on the iPod since you first used it.

Download the trial version of Anapop Explorer. This is the program you will use to add songs to your iPod Shuffle.

Install Anapop Explorer on your computer. Once the program is installed, you should notice two different iPod icons on the right side of your taskbar which is the bar on the bottom of your computer screen. Right click over the iPod Shuffle icon and select "Open Anapop Explorer." After Anapop Explorer opens, right click over the iPod Shuffle once more. This time, select "Connect iPod Shuffle."

Go to the open Anapop Explorer program and click the "Anapop Shuffler" link on the left side of the screen. You will see several different options appear in the middle of the program. Double click on the "iPod Shuffle Memory" option.

Find the songs that you want to add to the iPod Shuffle by browsing through the folders listed on the left side of the Anapop Explorer program. You should notice that this program is no different than "My Computer." Locate the folder that contains your songs and open the folder. From there, you can drag songs to "iPod Shuffle Memory."

Repeat the previous step until you've finished adding songs to your iPod Shuffle. Then, right click over the iPod Shuffle icon in the taskbar and select "Disconnect iPod Shuffle." After you have done this, you can close the Anapop Explorer program and disconnect your iPod Shuffle from your computer.
