Instructions

  1. 1

Cut three strands of the material you want to make the bracelet from. This can be embroidery thread, yarn, leather or even shoestrings. The strands should be at least 6 inches long.

  2. 2

Tie the three strands together with a knot at one end. This should leave about 1 inch of the material loose on one end of the knot, and the majority of the strands on the other side of the knot.

  3. 3

Tape the short loose ends to a tabletop or desk edge. This will anchor the bracelet and allow you to braid it tighter and smoother.

  4. 4

Braid by separating the strands into three groups, left, right, and centre. Bring the right strand over the middle strand, then the left strand over the right strand. This should move the centre strand to the right side. Braid the strands until there is an inch of the strands left.

  5. 5

Tie a knot at the end of the braid, and untape the bracelet. The loose ends can be tied together by the recipient to fasten the bracelet on a wrist or ankle.

Tips and warnings

  • As you become more proficient with braiding bracelets, you can make three braided bracelets and braid them together to make a more intricate and thicker bracelet.
