Televisions contain delicate electronics and are often heavy, so for safety, only mount your TV to a wall using a mounting device designed for that purpose. Select a wall-mount bracket designed for your TV type, whether it is a CRT, LCD or HDTV. Each type of set has different characteristics that can affect bracket installation.

- Stud finder
- Wall-mount bracket
- Wood screws
Press an electronic stud finder against the wall where you want to mount the TV and mark the location of each stud. Mark to the right and left edges of each stud. If your stud finder is not accurate, mark the centres of the studs as closely as possible.
Hold your TV bracket against the wall and place a bubble level across any horizontal parts. Adjust the bracket until the bubble level says it is horizontally level and the wall portions of the bracket line up with your studs. Trace the screw holes in the mounting bracket onto your wall with a pencil. You may need an assistant to hold the bracket in place.
Set the bracket aside and drill holes into the points that you marked, using a drill bit slightly smaller than your screw's circumference. Use at least the minimum number of screws recommended for the bracket. If no minimum is recommended, use four to six screws.
Place your TV mounting bracket over the holes and tighten the screws, securing the bracket to the wall. Use screws that are at least one inch longer than the thickness of the bracket plus the thickness of your drywall.
Secure your TV to the mounting bracket according to the instructions included with the bracket. This may include plastic or cloth straps, screws, bolts or clamps.
Tips and warnings
- If your TV mounting bracket comes with screw anchors, you can use these instead of finding wall studs. Do not to place a TV that is too heavy on the bracket, as the anchors are only rated to hold a specific weight. Check the instructions for the bracket for detailed specifications and tolerances.
