How to sync Evolution calendar with Google calendar
Centralise your calendars by syncing Google with Evolution. (Google)

Juggling multiple calendars and adding or removing appointments manually on each of them is a time-consuming admin chore that most people would prefer to do without. If you're using Evolution personal information management groupware on the Ubuntu operating system, you can hook the software up to your Google Calendar and keep all your appointments and meeting invites in one location.

  1. 1

Sign in to the Google Calendar service with your regular Gmail login username and password. Click the arrow button beside the calendar you want to add to Evolution, and then click "Share this calendar." Select the "Make this calendar public" option, and then click the "Save" button.

  2. 2

Launch the Evolution groupware app on Ubuntu, and then select the "Calendars" tab. Click "New" followed by "Calendar" to open the calendar properties dialog.

  3. 3

Select "CalDAV" in the calendar type field and enter a name for the calendar in the relevant field. In the "URL" input field, enter "caldav://". Replace "youruserid" with your actual Gmail username, which is the portion of your Gmail email address before the "@" symbol.

  4. 4

Type your Gmail login credentials in the applicable fields. You can also set a refresh time that sets how often Evolution checks the Google Calendar for updates. Click the "OK" button.

  5. 5

Choose "Edit" in the menu bar, followed by "Preferences" and then "Calendar Publishing." Select "Add" and click the "iCal" option from the "Publish as" menu. Choose "Manual" from the "Action" menu. In the Sources section of the dialog box, click to select your CalDAV calendar.

  6. 6

Select "Secure WebDAV (HTTPS)" in the Service Type options list. Enter "" in the Server input box, and then paste "/calendar/dav/" in the File box. Again, replace the username in this example with your own Gmail user ID. Enter your Gmail login username and password in the relevant boxes, and tick the "Remember password" check box.

  7. 7

Click the "OK" button to store your configuration. Select "Close" to exit the setup dialog and return to the main Calendar screen in Evolution.
