Hair rebonding straightens your hair through the application of a chemical. There's no reason to pay big money to a hair salon for this treatment. You can do it yourself at home. However, hair professionals recommend you don't attempt it because mistakes could cost you dear. You'll need to take care when carrying out hair rebonding at home. Get a friend or relative to do the rebonding for you. You would find it difficult to properly treat the back of your own head. This is a slow, time-consuming job and it will take about four hours to treat shoulder length hair. If you have long hair, try to get two friends to do the work together, each having responsibility for one side of your head.
Wash the hair thoroughly with a mild shampoo. Do not apply conditioner. Dry the hair with a hair dryer on medium heat. Don’t rub the hair with a towel and don’t worry about styling.
Separate the hair into sections and fix each sector with hair clips. Plan to work around the head systematically, dealing with the front top of the head. It doesn’t matter whether your friend then proceeds around the head clockwise or anti-clockwise, just as long as she follows the same direction for each layer.
Check the box of the relaxant for instructions. Usually, the cream should be on your hair for about 30 minutes. Write down in a column on a piece of paper a count of the sectors on your head. If two people are working on it, put two columns, one on the left and one on the right. Check the time work starts on each section and write that down against the number for that sector. The product instructions will tell you how to vary the length of time depending on the strength of the cream and the frizziness of your hair. The instructions should also tell you at what length of time the application becomes dangerous.
Pour the cream into a bowl and get the dabbing brush ready. Your friend should put on gloves, make a start on zone one, unclip that sector and spread it out, while you log the time. The friend should make sure every strand is coated on all sides along the entire length of the hair. After all hair in a sector is coated, he should pin it up, move on to the next sector and start the process over again. It is important to work quickly so that the difference in start time between sectors is as short as possible.
Soak a towel in boiling water. While wearing gloves, wring it out and then wrap it around your head, covering all the hair. Leave it on for at least 10 minutes. This period may be longer, depending on the strength of the cream and the condition of your hair. Check the box of relaxant for precise instructions on timing.
Remove the hot towel and rinse your hair with warm water. Blow dry again on medium heat.
Apply keratin lotion to the hair, combing it through. Do not rinse the lotion off.
Use the ceramic flat iron from the top to the bottom of your hair. This will straighten the hair, which, until now, will still be curly.
Follow the procedure you took with your friend to apply the relaxant, only this time, apply neutraliser. The timings for this step are the same as with the relaxant, but, again, check the box of your neutraliser.
Rinse your hair with cold water removing all of the product. Blow dry on medium heat again.
Straighten the hair again with the ceramic flat iron. After this final treatment, do not touch your hair again for three days and do not wash it, or let it get wet. Also, do not put any clips, bands or bindings on the hair.
