Over time, the bulbs in your Mazda RX8's taillights can wear out and need to be replaced. Replacing the lamp bulbs inside your RX8's taillights is an easy procedure that requires just a few minutes of your time.

Access the Taillights

Open your RX8's boot to access the back end of the tail light assemblies. This is where the bulbs for the taillights are located. The bulbs and their electronic connections are protected by a plastic shroud that's connected to the back of each tail light. You will need to remove the shroud to access the lamp bulbs.

Remove the Plastic Shroud

Locate the plastic clips at the centre of each shroud. Pull the clips back with light force to snap out the plastic shroud. Peel back the surrounding interior carpeting to increase your access to the tail light lamp bulbs.

Replace the Bulb

Remove each defective or failing tail lamp bulb and inspect it. A burnt out tail light bulb will have a black film on the inside and may produce a slight noise when shaken. Remove each bulb by pressing it in and twisting it counterclockwise. To install a new bulb, push it into the socket and twist it in a clockwise direction. Snap the plastic shrouds back into place to finish the job. Do not touch the bulbs directly with your fingers as they can leave oils on the bulb that can cause it to prematurely burn out.
