For those that have pets, chances are you have experienced fleas in the house, in the furniture, carpet and all over your yard. The hotter it gets, the more active fleas get and the more they bite pets and humans. Flea treatments can be expensive, especially if you are having your house and yard sprayed, your animal dipped at the veterinarian, or find yourself constantly buying flea bombs, flea shampoo for your pets and insecticide for your yard. There are natural treatments that are safe and affordable. For human treatment, you will need to get rid of fleas in all areas.

Dawn Lemon Scented Soap

Launder all sheets, towels and clothes in Dawn Lemon Scented Soap. Dawn Lemon Scented is known to kill fleas on contact, and you can also soak in a bubble bath of Dawn Lemon Scented to repel fleas from humans. Remember, to do this at least every two weeks or sooner, since eggs hatch out in two week intervals.

Essential Oils

Herbs, Bark and Chips

Planting the herb ennyroyal around your house or in pots in your house will repel fleas. Cedar shavings around the front evergreens at your doorway, as well as around your pets bedding will help act as a barrier. Many people with pets will use cedar wood chips as the mulch in the flower gardens surrounding their home as a natural barrier.

20 Mule Team Borax

For the best yard treatment, spread 20 Mule Team Borax around your yard, especially concentrating near your front door area. For carpet and furniture, spread 20 Mule Team Borax after every vacuuming and rub in or sprinkle it in corners and baseboards of tile or linoleum floors. You will have to reapply each time you vacuum during summer months. Change the bag and filter after every vacuuming or in a bagless vacuum empty the holder to prevent flea reinfestation.
