How to Import Visio Into SketchUp

Google Sketch is a 3D modelling application. SketchUp is usually used to create 3D realisations of houses and other buildings, though it can be used for other purposes, such as creating 3D charts or diagrams. Visio is a Microsoft product that can be used to create diagrams, so you might want to be able to import these files to SketchUp for use there. However, you cannot directly import Visio files into SketchUp. There is a way around this.

  1. Start the Visio application. Select "File" from the menu and choose "Open." In the dialogue, open a file you want to export.

  2. Select "File" from the menu and choose "Save As." In the dialogue that appears, change the file type to ".dwg" and click "Save."

  3. Start the SketchUp application. Select "File" from the menu and choose "Import." In the dialogue, browse to and open the file you saved in Step 2.
