How do I Convert Ami Pro to Word?

Ami Pro was a popular word processing program in the late 1980s and early 1990s. It was the predecessor to the Lotus Word Pro application, which was a major competitor of Microsoft Word until the early 2000s. Microsoft Word has since become the dominant word-processing application for Windows users.

If you have Ami Pro, you can convert the files for use in Word by saving the document in the Rich Text Format (.rtf) file format. RTF files are fully compatible with MS Word. If you do not have Ami Pro, you must install a special converter for Word.

  1. Launch the Ami Pro word-processing program.

  2. Click the "File/Open" option on the menu bar. Browse to the file you want to convert for use with Microsoft Word. Open the file in Ami Pro.

  3. Click "File/Save" on the menu bar and then on the "Save As" option. Choose "Rich Text Format" as the file type in the "File" drop-down menu. Click the "OK" button. The file is now compatible with Microsoft Word.

  4. Open the converted Ami Pro file in Word. Make changes as needed, and print or save the document.

  5. Visit the Microsoft Office website and download the Office Converter Pack.

  6. Browse to the folder where you saved the downloaded file. Double-click the file to install the converter application. Close Microsoft Word, if prompted to do so.

  7. Restart Microsoft Word. If using Word 2000 or 2003, click on the "Tools" menu and then on "Options." In Word 2007 and 2010, click the "Word" button and then "Word Options" at the bottom of the pop-up menu.

  8. Click on the "General" tab in Word 2000 or 2003, or the "Advance" tab in Word 2007 or 2010, and scroll down to the "General" section in the right pane of the window.

  9. Click the check box next to the "Confirm conversion on open" in Word 2000 or 2003. In Word 2007 and 2010, enable the "Confirm file format conversion on open" option. Click the "OK" button in all versions to save changes and return to the main Word window.

  10. Click on the "File/Open option on the menu bar and browse to the Ami Pro document you want to open. Highlight the file and click the "Open" button. Press the "Yes" button when prompted to confirm the conversion of the file into a Word-compatible format.
