How to Open a Keygen

Updated July 19, 2017

A keygen, or key generator, is an executable file that you can use to generate serial numbers for the application for which it was created. You can then use any of the generated serial numbers to authenticate the application. This is a useful method to replace a lost serial number for software that you have bought. Use a keygen only for a purchased application because it is illegal to use one for pirated software.

  1. Open your antivirus application and disable it temporarily. Some antivirus applications will flag keygens as threats to your computer.

  2. Download the keygen that you want to use from the Internet.

  3. Go to the location where you saved the keygen using Windows Explorer.

  4. Double-click on the keygen to open it. If you can't open it this way, right-click the keygen file and select "Run as Administrator."

  5. Warning

Before using a keygen, read the license agreement of the application on which you are using it to ensure that you are not violating any term and conditions.
