How to Transfer Data From Computer to a MicroSD Card

Updated March 23, 2017

The microSD card is a small memory card that is mainly used for storing data on cameras, cell phones and PDAs. You can also use microSD cards on your computer. If you have music, picture or video files that you want to use on your mobile devices, you can transfer the files to the microSD card to enjoy them while on the go. In order to access this tiny memory card, you will need an adaptor that makes it the size of a regular SD card.

  1. Place the microSD card into the adaptor.

  2. Slide the microSD adaptor into your computer's card reader slot. If your computer doesn't have a card reader, purchase a USB card reader. These are "plug and play" devices, meaning that you simply insert the cord into an open USB port on your computer and they are ready to use.

  3. Select "Open folder to view files" when the AutoPlay dialogue box pops up. This pulls up a window that shows all of the files you have stored on the microSD card.

  4. Navigate to the location of the files that you want to transfer to the microSD card. Click on one of the files, and then hold the "Ctrl" button down while you select the others. Right-click on one of the highlighted files and select "Copy."

  5. Click inside the microSD window and press "Ctrl+V" to paste the files into that folder.

  6. Click on the icon that's labelled "Safely remove hardware" in the lower right-hand corner of the system tray. Select the microSD card from the list of devices, and remove it from the card reader when you receive notification that it is safe to do so.
