How to make animal pop up cards
There is no need to purchase an animal pop up card when you can make one yourself. This paper craft is simple enough for children and beginning crafters to complete with ease. Animal pop up cards compliment any birthday gift for a child or animal enthusiast. This pop up card project does not require any templates.
In addition, you can apply the techniques used to make this card when you want to make other types of pop up cards.
Find a picture you like of an animal and cut it out using scissors. You can print one on the computer from the Internet or a collection of clipart images. You can also use a picture from a magazine or a drawing of an animal you drew. If you decide to use a picture from a magazine, glue the picture to a piece of cardstock so it is sturdy.
Fold a piece of cardstock in half so it measures 8 1/2 by 5 1/2 inches. This is the base of your animal pop up card.
Use a ruler to draw two 1-inch lines at the folded edge of the cardstock. Space the lines an inch apart. Make two cuts along the folded edge of the card using the lines you drew as a guide.
Open the folded cardstock and push the paper between the cut notches forward. It should bend at a 90-degree angle, opposite of the original fold. This part of the animal will look like there is a little box popping out from the card.
Place some glue on the front of the box that is popping out from the card. Then place the picture of the animal you want to use for the pop up card on top of it. Make sure the bottom of the animal's picture is flush against the bottom of the card. Let the glue dry.
Stick the second piece of paper to the back of the card base. However, do not glue the part of the paper that makes the animal picture pop out.
- If you are having trouble bending the piece of paper between the two notches you cut, open the card only halfway while pushing the paper between the two notches forward with a pencil. Try to make creases in the new fold with your fingernails or a bone-folder for paper so it consistently opens the correct way.
