Although there is no cream out there that will melt away fat, certain ingredients have been shown to have a temporary effect on the appearance of fat in the form of cellulite. Nearly 90 per cent of women over 18 begin to show signs of cellulite, according to a news report on CBC, the Canadian Broadcasting Company. Thankfully, there are steps you can take to minimise the appearance of cellulite, including making your own fat-burning cream.

About Fat-Burning Ingredients

Fat burning sounds miraculous, but what some research has shown is that certain ingredients, such as caffeine and aminophylline, can reduce the appearance of cellulite on skin. Aminophylline is a drug used for bronchial dilation in the treatment of asthma. This is only available by prescription, and its effectiveness on cellulite is only beginning to be understood. In a 2006 article in the journal "Diabetes, Obesity and Metabolism," a 12-week study using aminophylline showed an average reduction of 11 cm in waist girth for women using the aminophylline. For an effective homemade cellulite remedy, you can substitute readily available herbs that work in a similar fashion, according to "Personal Care Magazine." Certain herbs work to increase the blood flow through the capillaries as well as strengthen the blood vessels in the area, which improves metabolism and may improve the body's ability to burn fat. These herbs include kelp such as bladderwrack, a readily available type of seaweed; horse chestnut, butcher's broom, ginko, arnica, cayenne, and borage oil. Horse chestnut is a traditional herbal medicine, used topically, for varicose veins and cellulite. Buy it from a health food store in a prepared topical cream only, as it does need to be processed to remove toxicity.

Fat-Burning Cream Recipe

You can make a simple homemade cream by placing a piece of bladderwrack and a piece of kelp in 4 cups of water. Boil for at least 20 minutes or up to an hour, adding water if necessary. The water should now be the consistency of jelly. Add 1/2 cup coffee to the mixture, simmer for another 20 minutes, and allow to cool. In a small bowl, combine 1 cup reduced seaweed and coffee mixture, 1 tbs. borage oil, and 1 tbs. arnica gel. You may add some horse chestnut cream as well if it is available.

Fat-Burning Cream and Spa Treatment

For a relaxing and at least temporary reduction in the appearance of fat and cellulite, try this combination treatment as a spa-like way to use your new cream: First, drink a diuretic tea, such as chamomile or nettle tea. These teas are nourishing as well, and chamomile also helps with anxiety and is good for the skin. After a cup of warm tea, dry brush your skin, always brushing toward the heart. This helps stimulate the lymphatic system as well as exfoliating the dead skin, which will improve texture and appearance of the skin, if not reduce fat. After dry brushing, take a long hot shower and use coffee grounds to further exfoliate the skin. Coffee grounds may be used fresh from your morning coffee, or you may mix them with some olive or other oil. After your shower, apply your cellulite reduction cream and lie still for at least 20 minutes. This combination will at least reduce the appearance of fat. According to the CBC, one more trick that is used by people in the fashion industry is to apply self-tanning cream to reduce the appearance of cellulite.
